Dan Berggren Scheduled for Unity
Hall Performance Saturday, June 16
Biography
Dan Berggren’s roots are firmly in the Adirondack Mountains of
northern New York where he was raised but his music has branched out
across many borders. The award-winning educator and musician has
entertained audiences in concert halls, coffee houses, libraries, schools
and museums from Kentucky to Michigan, Belgium to Bulgaria, and Zimbabwe
to Transylvania.
A tradition-based songsmith, Dan writes with honesty, humor and a
strong sense of place. His songs explore the many dimensions of home,
hardworking folks, taking care of our planet and each other. Some of
these songs have been classically arranged giving Dan the opportunity to
perform with symphony orchestras in Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca, Fredonia,
West Virginia and Indiana.
The 30-year folk veteran held various jobs before devoting his life to
music full-time: working in the woods with a forest ranger and surveyor;
radio producer, writer and announcer in Europe; professor of audio and
radio studies for the State University of New York; and owner of Sleeping
Giant Records which has produced thirteen albums. The latest release
Fresh Territory, includes the renewable energy song "Power from
Above." It struck such a resonant chord with SING OUT! the nation’s
premiere folk magazine, that it was published in its Fall 2006 issue.
Fresh
Territory is reaching a wider audience than ever before, thanks in
part to radio airplay from the Adirondacks and New England to Kansas,
Texas, Atlanta, Miami, Buffalo, Chicago, New York City and Washington, DC.
